Day 1: Elite Quarterback Academy at Saddlebrook Resort

06/14/2010

Coach Joe Dickinson and Coach Mike Loyd spent the day working with the quarterbacks in a rotation of skill stations focusing on throwing technique, footwork, drops, and routes. Jason Riley and his team of Performance Specialists took the athletes through an NFL combine preparation program. DeBartolo Sports University (DSU) is happy to add Paulette Ngu to the coaching staff for this weeks program. Paulette is an expert in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), specifically kickboxing and Muay Thai. With this background she created a unique routine and added a new element to the DeBartolo Sports University’s (DSU) complete QB training program. Quarterbacks where pleased.

Rising seniors Conner Preston (Serra HS - Gardena, CA) and Daxx Garman (Southlake Carroll HS - Southlake, TX) showcased why they are two of the top quarterbacks nationally.

Says Dickinson, “He (Preston) excels in every part of the game. He has great size and all the physical traits that make up a great quarterback and is equally impressive when you get him on chalkboard. He plays even better with pads on."

Says Dickinson on Garman, "He stands out in every setting he is part of and is the total package; very smart in the classroom and smooth on the field."

Augie DeBiase, Colby Simmons, Preston Brown, and Nick Duncan showcased their abilities during practice. This is Simmons' second Elite QB Academy at Saddlebrook and he looked like a completely different quarterback, very sound in his drops and throwing technique.

Quarterbacks will continue their workouts on Tuesday June 16, 2010 where they will look to improve on Day 1.

Day 2: Elite Quarterback Academy at Saddlebrook Resort

6/15/2010

Athletes returned to the field this morning to build off the progress of Day1 and resumed their station rotations of skills work, strength training and combine training..

Today's heat didn't slow down any of the QB's, especially Augie DeBiase. The rising 8th grader worked out and competed with the rising sophmores and juniors. During the evening QB competition, DeBiase successfully stepped-up against several talented players several years older than himself and won.

QB's returned to the field for a night session and participated in spirited competition drills. The three 4 star QB's at the camp, Conner Preston (Southern Methodist University commit), Daxx Garman (University of Arizona commit) and Cody Keith (East Carolina University commit) each led a team through a series of accuaracy tests, footwork tests, and strength tests. It was great to see all the QB's come together on teams, and work together for a common goal.

Standouts of the day include: Augie DeBiase, Mac Katigan, Chandler Sokolosky, Will McCullough, and Travis Smith.

Says Dickinson on QB Travis Smith, "He is a really good freshman with outstanding body control and all the makings of a great QB."

Equally impressive was Mac Katigan from Oklahoma City, OK. His footwork and overall mechanics are above average and he continues to show great potential. As he continues his training, he will become a very polished QB.

Says Dickinson "He (Katigan) will be as good as he allows himself to be, he really started show what he can do at this camp."

The youth QB's have also stepped it up in practice. Led by Chandler Sokolosky and Will McCullough, these are two young men that already have developed very good fundamentals and have a bright future ahead of themselves.

The "Camp Celebrity" title goes to Thomas Fleming from New York City. Fleming is a very talented QB, with good size, arm strength and throwing mechanics.

With two days of hard practices in the Florida heat and humidity and long meetings breaking film down and doing chalkboard work, the QB's will all be allowed to sleep in a little on Wednesday...no morning meeting. Keep up the good work.

Quarterbacks will continue their workouts on Wednesday June 17, 2010 where they will look to improve on Day 1 and Day 2.

Day 3: Elite Quarterback Academy at Saddlebrook Resort

6/16/2010

QB's hit the field hard for a long morning practice where they continued their skills work and strength and conditioning drills. The camp welcomed Jack Lyddon, a 7th grader from Pasadena, CA and Isaac Kay from Houston, TX. Lyddon wasted no time getting comfortable in the drills and getting acclimated to the camp..

Thomas Stuart was the standout from today's workout. Stuart is a well coached QB in his hometown and has some great training. He has shown great improvements in being able to generate power with his hips...working with Paulette Ngu has been very beneficial for him.

Dustin Quigley has shown a tremendous amount of improvement over the last three days. The biggest strides came with his ability to be an accurate passing QB. It will be nice to see where he is at by weeks end.

The leadership qualities of all the QB's is really starting show, especially with David Corwell, who is given the "Best Leader in Camp" Award. Cornwell, who has been throwing the ball very well all week, has also taken on the role helping the youth QB's in practice and in meetings. He has been a great role model for the youth QB's

Augie DeBiase continued to impress. He shows consistent improvement each day and has great confidence as a QB. He's not afraid to step up next to the older high school QB's.

QB's took a much needed ice bath to finish the morning practice and spent the afternoon doing regeneration work with Jason Riley in the Saddlebrook Resort pool.

Participants were given the night off and went to the movies in an attempt to escape the heat.

On Thursday, QB's will begin the day in the classroom with some NFL Film study followed by an onfield skills station.
